Meet Amy Orlin
Dr. Amy Orlin has worked as a small animal veterinarian for over 30 years. She obtained a B.S. from Emory University and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. She worked as an associate in a small animal private practice in Snellville, GA for twelve years.
In 2001, she saw a need to use her skills to serve homeless, neglected dogs and cats by answering the call to become the first shelter veterinarian at Dekalb Humane Society, now known as Paws Atlanta. She did so at a reduction in compensation. While there, Dr. Orlin became proficient at HVHQ (high volume, high quality) spay and neuter surgeries in addition to providing diagnosis and life-saving treatments for shelter animals. She was recognized by the Greater Atlanta Veterinarian Association for her work by receiving the Humane Veterinarian Award for that year.
Recognizing the need to reduce the overpopulation of feral and domestic cats, she co-founded the nonprofit, Atlanta Animal Alliance and launched Project CatSnip. This program offered low-cost spay/neuter throughout the 20-County Metropolitan Atlanta Region. Project CatSnip is responsible for sterilizing well over 100,000 felines to date.
In 2008, after witnessing the poor condition of animals owned by low-income, but caring pet owners, Dr. Orlin launched an affordable, full-service program WellPet Humane. As the Medical Director of WellPet, she offered affordable, high quality veterinary care for tens-of-thousands of dogs and cats belonging to pet owners with financial hardships while supervising a medical staff of 48 like-minded professionals.
Dr. Orlin is continuing her work to save and redeem the lives of underserved, neglected companion animals by providing grants and offering veterinary consultations through The Boca Fund.
